Isn’t it hard to take that leap of faith?
You know, so many of us say we are Christians and yet even MORE of us lack the general ability to put our faith in God. We tell ourselves, “well, I’ll only do this if that works out” or, “I refuse to do this if that isn’t planned”. Sometimes we don’t mean to, we just want everything to work out! I mean, who doesn’t? Most of our goals involved living a comfortable, stable life.
But that is not necessarily the life God called us to live.
Of course He wants us to be taken care of. But, sometimes God calls us away from the comfort and away from “our plans” to learn how to properly trust Him.
Instead Jesus says, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21)
I’d hate to sound like a broken record but as most of you know my husband and I are gearing up for a large move in two weeks. This is a move that has been well thought of but built with little to no plans. It’s a move that has been laid on both my husband’s and my own heart over a year ago! And yet, we have no idea how it’s going to actually work.
We know this move is strictly led by God and we are excited for the possibilities!
How do we know?
How do we know that moving to another state, leaving a secured job, and leaving our extended family is the right choice?
We know because we have PEACE.
My husband and I don’t have everything figured out but we do know how we feel. I’m one of those people who do not like to over complicate Christianity. You see, I believe God made everything in the Bible to be understood by His children — it may not be understood all at once, but I am not into the idea of “secret meanings” and “hidden passages”. What would be the point? The point of the Bible is to continuously teach us how amazing God is — why would He make it hard for believers to understand His word?
“since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:19-21)
My point is this: fear is fear and peace is peace. If you are feeling complete, 100% peace about something then it must be of God. I don’t believe that Satan even has the power to make something 100% peaceful and beautiful. Even more than that, I do not want to give Satan the “credit” of my peace. Vise versa, if we have an uneasy feeling about something, I believe it’s a warning.
Let me remind you, the fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galations 5:22 – 23). These things are things of God, NOT things of Satan.
So how do we take that leap of faith? How do we go against the grain of what the American culture says we should have/be? How do we march to the beat of Christ’s drum when we have continuous opposition from family and friends?
To take a leap of faith is to trust in God!
If you truly believe what you are doing is what God wants, you’ll know. You’ll be overwhelmed with peace, faithfulness, goodness, joy, love, etc. Sometimes dropping everything to follow Jesus is hard but once you do it you’ll feel such freedom and relief!
And this may sound crazy but you’ll really know that you’re following God’s plan for you when you begin to see the people and things around you try and hinder it — this is called “satan’s desperate attempt to sway you”. Since the time we announced that we were moving (over a year ago) up to now, there has been so many obstacles. || SO MANY || We have had opportunities thrown at us left and right that have NOTHING to do with what we are trying to do.
For example: my husband has his mind set on pursuing firefighting as a career which I 100% support. Since he has announced this, he has had four different job opportunities in different fields pop up which has NEVER happened to us. Crazy right? My husband applied to the first job and it went absolutely no where. But, thankfully we quickly caught on and realized that each one of these “careers” were a distraction and roadblock to His success.
ANYWAYS, here are a couple of bible verses that I have relied on during this time of dropping everything and running blindly towards God.
(All in the NIV Translation)
|| Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. || Joshua 1:9

|| The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God. || Daniel 6:23
|| May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. || Romans 15:13 (<- see? PEACE when you trust!)
|| “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” || Jeremiah 17:7-8
|| This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. || 1 John 5:14

|| For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. || Jeremiah 29:11
|| “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? || Matthew 6:25
|| But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” || Mark 5:26
|| “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. || Deuteronomy 28:1-2
