I am a momma and I am weary.
This weariness doesn’t go away with a proper amount of sleep. This weariness doesn’t go away with laughter and fun. This weariness is here to stay.
I have to laugh at the saying “enjoy your sleep while you can” that I heard when I was pregnant. Sleep is not what is going to cure my (and your) weariness. Although sleep does help immensely, it is not the main part.
Sleep is like butter. You know, you’re going to look pretty silly eating butter by itself but it does act as a nice sidekick for a homemade warm piece of bread. Bread is the main part; butter is very nice to have but it’s just the icing on top to make a killer bite.
Okay, maybe that was a weird analogy but hopefully you get the point!
Sometimes I don’t realize how tired and insanely weary I am until I am driving. I often feel like the oldest person alive when I am driving somewhere even IN TOWN because I can feel my eyelids growing heavy. The warm sun feels nice on my skin, the soft buzz of the vehicle is calming, and the twists and sways in the road might as well act like a rocking cradle for me. My goodness, it’s ridiculous.
Everyone was very quick to tell me about the lack of sleep I would be getting when I became pregnant. However, no one warned me about a the sluggish feeling even after a great night’s sleep! I can get a full 10 hours of sleep at night and still feel exhausted. I am lucky to be blessed with a child who takes to sleeping like a pro but some days it really makes no difference if I get 5 hours or 8.
Call it what you may but I’ve decided to call this phenomenon “chronic weariness”.
You can take vitamins, energy supplements, therapy, and sleep tests but the weariness is still there. It burrows deep in your bones like a chill that won’t go away.
(Writing paused because I just went to take a nap. Oh, the irony!)
After months of struggling with the tiredness that just WON’T go away, I found the best solution for battling it!
This solution is free of charge, I can use it any time, and it is also better than any medicine out there.
The solution is prayer!
Praying to overcome my weariness is the only thing that is ALWAYS free. Prayer for my weariness is the only thing that I can use at any time and it won’t hurt me in any way. Praying is also the most powerful thing I can do for myself– even more powerful than any medicine or vitamin.
I am a believer in prayer. I believe that prayer is our biggest weapon we posses against all things that we struggle with.
What is prayer?
Prayer is a way to connect with God, talk with God, and ask for help. You don’t even have to call it prayer if you don’t want to — although I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to. You can simply call it “talking to God” if that’s what you’d prefer.
I get it. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that God would concern himself with something so little when there is so much hurt and evil in the world. It’s even harder to imagine that God loves us MORE than we love our husband and children!
He knew us before he made us! In fact, He knows every hair on our head.
“And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7
Sometimes we may not get something because we just don’t ask. I’d rather ask for many things and receive half over asking for few and receiving even fewer! God knows that we are struggling and He wants us to ask Him for help.
So, I created a small chart with ten bible verses that may help you (and me) with the struggle of being weary. These are bible verses that can help prompt you in prayer or simply encourage you. You’re choice!
Click the picture to print. Hang it on your wall, put it in your bible, next to your computer, on your night stand, or wherever it can serve as a constant reminder!
Just remember, you’re doing great momma! We are in this weary boat together.
